Customer Spotlight: Horizon Academy and Literacy KC

Throughout my years at Avid, one thing I have learned is the down times and busy seasons for each industry. Let’s not talk about the times I’ve called an accounting firm in April, you’d think I’ve lost my mind!!! Schools are no different, and I’m sure you guessed it, we do many upgrades and installations for schools in the summer. This summer I was excited to add Horizon Academy and Literacy KC to my customer list.
Horizon Academy
For over 20 years, Horizon Academy has been empowering students diagnosed with dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities to become effective learners and confident self-advocates. Horizon Academy maintains accreditation through the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) and AdvancED and our program is accredited by the Orton-Gillingham Academy. Literacy KC
Literacy KC offers a welcoming community for adults and families to improve literacy skills and enhance their quality of life through meaningful and effective programming. The literacy, digital, and job skills with which Literacy KC equips students are vital. With support from volunteers, donors, partners, and the community at large, Literacy KC invests in Kansas City’s greatest asset – our people. Their mission is to advance literacy within the Kansas City metropolitan area through direct services, advocacy, and collaboration. Their vision is Literacy for all! Both schools utilized our QoS relationship with Google Fiber, and were able to upgrade their bandwidth and their phone systems all while paying the same (or even saving) on monthly service fees. Teachers and staff love to be able to call out from our softphone, without revealing their personal cell phone numbers to parents and students.
Avid also easily integrates with the existing overhead paging systems and classroom intercom systems. I’ve built custom call flows and consult through what I have seen other schools in the area do to streamline their telecommunications, like attendance lines and after hours emergencies.
