Customer Spotlight: Museum at Prairiefire

Established in 2014, The Museum at Prairiefire (MAP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting education and engagement in natural history, science, culture, and art. Housed within a 42,000-square-foot museum, the MAP features regional and national collections, providing educational experiences for both children and adults.
Under the leadership of Executive Director Terri Thompson, the MAP has become a beacon in the Kansas City community, emphasizing the importance of education across all age groups. Thompson has specifically championed STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) childhood education by actively advancing administration and funding for the Kansas City Urban Advantage (KCUA) program through the MAP.
STEAM Education
One of the most noteworthy aspects of the MAP organization is its significant impact on STEAM education within the Kansas City community through KCUA. This program has provided free educational programs to help foster creativity and learning for underserved children who are least likely to have access to quality STEAM education. This program has successfully served over 8,000 students across 10 elementary schools and five out-of-school programs.
KCUA stands as a pivotal force in advancing STEAM education by creating valuable opportunities for underprivileged children to explore and learn in the Kansas City area.
