It’s time to switch your telecommunications provider for the last time.
Since the old Bell System was broken up thirty years ago, dozens of companies have asked you to switch your long distance service. Then about 15 years later, dozens of companies asked you to switch your local phone service. For the last 10 years, many companies have asked you to switch your Internet service.
Are you tired of switching yet? I wouldn’t be surprised.
But if you’re not with Google Fiber and Avid, it’s time to switch for the last time – certainly a self-serving statement, but I can back it up.
You won’t see an Internet deal as good as Google Fiber for years to come, if ever.
Since Al Gore invented the Internet in the early ‘90s, we’ve seen steady improvements in speed and steady reductions in costs. Until Google Fiber, whose business class service was a shocking increase in speed and at an even more shocking price.
When Google announced business service two years ago, I would’ve bet their gigabit connection would be priced no lower than $300/month. Man was I wrong! It’s $100/month.
For some context, here is the price per megabit for Internet access over the years:
Year | Type | Price Per Megabit |
1995 | Dial-up | $8,300 |
2000 | T1 | $600 |
2005 | T1 | $166 |
2010 | 10 MB Fiber | $100 |
2013 | Cable | $10 |
2015 | Google Fiber | $0.10 |
That’s not a typo. The price of a megabit fell from $100.00 to $0.10 in five years–thanks to Google Fiber.
The benefits of Google Fiber’s Internet deal extend beyond just Internet speed
Because Google Fiber is a fiber-optic connection and its bandwidth is super-fast both upstream and downstream, it can be used for any telecommunications need. VoIP phones, traditional phones, real-time video, security lines, fax lines, off-site data storage, transmission of massive files – anything. Anything!
Let me get technical for a moment. A key measure of network performance is called latency, which is the transmission delay time in the network. Avid has measured normal latency across cable-type connections (e.g. Time Warner Cable and Comcast) and a good reading is 40 milliseconds, although it can be much worse. (Like golf, lower numbers are better.) On Google Fiber, we normally see latency of about 5 milliseconds. That’s an indication of the incredible quality of the Google Fiber network.
Google Fiber and Avid can unlock unexpected cost savings for you
We see this every day. Not only is Google Fiber a breakthrough in Internet bandwidth cost, but Avid can deliver an array of services over that connection that can result in surprising reductions in your phone bill. You will probably end up saving more on the phone side than you pay for your Google Fiber link. And you don’t have to change out your equipment, although to take advantage of all that is now available, you might want to.
Now is a great time for a complete assessment of your network
Gigabit speeds is a new world for most businesses. Modernizing your network to optimize for gigabit is surprisingly easy and inexpensive.
Avid will assess the following:
- Router
- Firewall
- Switches
- Wiring
- WiFi network
The end result of this will be a reliable, secure and very fast network that will support your business requirements for years to come. Google Fiber will deliver you the best in Internet access. Avid will watch over all of your network components and services every day to make sure they are performing well and meeting your requirements.
It’s a rare moment in business when decisions are this clear-cut and compelling.
- Cut costs substantially.
- Get greater capabilities.
- Improve reliability.
- Reduce hassle.
- Increase security.
So that’s why I say it’s time to switch. Now. For the last time.
Then for years you’ll have more time to work on areas of your business that are more interesting than Internet, phone, wiring, WiFi, routers and firewalls. You’ll be where you need to be.
